The pride of East Falls, the Falls Library was built in the 1920's along with many others in Philadelphia made possible by the generosity of Andrew Carnagie. It is constructed of with local wissahickon shist, a shiny mica named for the nearby creek which is found in many East Falls and Germantown structures. The Falls Library has a very interesting collection of material on East Falls history, which was compiled in the form of photos, clippings and stories anbd lore which was compiled in the early part of the 20th Century and later donated to the library. The material is still available for general use and is degrading at an alarming rate. The library was recently restored to its original layout. This includesTudor style exposed beams and lighting.
